Does my website really need a business blog?
There are a couple things to keep in mind when planning your new site. Does your business website need a blog or not? The answer is a business blog is only important if you care about search engine optimization and establishing your company as an expert in your field. If you don’t, read this post instead. If you care, read on.
Here are a couple of things to keep in mind about blogging on a business site:
- Search engines prefer sites that update their content regularly. Plan on updating content on your site every 2 to 4 weeks.
- If you only have static pages such as Products, Services, About Us, then you definitely need a blog. The blog gives you a place to write about what you know and share that knowledge with your audience on an ongoing basis.
I know what you’re thinking now. “I don’t have enough content to share 2 to 3 times a month. Who’s going to write all those posts?”
You have a few options. You can do it yourself, dedicate someone on your team or use a content provider such as www.crowdcontent.com. You can also ask people to guest post who are in the same or a complementary field. I prefer blogging myself because of my journalism degree. After all, mom and dad spent a lot of money to put me in college. They better get their money’s worth, right?
All kidding aside, I’m the expert in my business and I enjoy writing. It’s the most logical thing for me to write my posts so I do them. I schedule time each week to write and get it done. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Blogging forces you to stay on top of your field and get creative. When your visitors see your content, and it delivers value, they will share your posts. That right there is worth all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ll shed to write your posts each week.
Yes Virginia, you need to blog if you care about search engine ranking and getting more clients. It takes work but in the end its well worth every minute.
